HC Derksen
Music has always been a special part of HC Derksen's life. He began playing guitar when he was 13 years old listening to the radio and playing from books. For 30 years he added his voice to his church choir and sang in quartets. A professional opera singer provided voice lessons.
During the past few years he began composing music and writing lyrics.
When music is that important, sharing it with others seems natural and the right thing to do.
HC's first CD, Miracles, was released in April, 2004. It's a beautiful collection of nine gospel songs, eight written by him while the ninth is his arrangement of "Create In Me a Clean Heart." His message of inspiration to his listeners comes directly from his heart.
HC Derksen's purpose for performing, writing music, and playing his guitar is to bring glory, honor and praise to the Creator of all that is seen and unseen and to His son, Jesus Christ. HC believes that God is the reason that he has hope for the future and why he can sing with joy.
Making music is relaxing. HC finds that it is a stress reliever. When he plays his guitar, he thinks of the words of the music instead of pressures of the day. "Music helps calm the spirit."
He is involved with the worship team at his church. HC is a member of Christian Country Music Association (CCMA), and lists his music with BMI. He and his wife, Barbara also are members of the Christian Motorcyclists Association. Through this organization, they have attended many motorcycle rallies. "The purpose of these rallies is to bring the message of the gospel to the motorcycle community". He sings songs at the rallies, mostly tunes that belong to someone else. Over time others began prompting him to create his fist CD. The collection of gospel songs in Miracles is his way of spreading the word.
The rhythm and poetry in the music of HC Derksen is unique. The challenging words come from God. He hopes they will inspire toward changed lives.
In August of 2005, HC released his second album, "Choices". This album speaks about the choices we make and how those choices can affect our lives and our nation. The lead song "God Bless America" is a passionate appeal to rethink where we are headed in this great land, in the words of one listener, "as a Vietnam veteran, listening to the song invokes a great deal of emotion each time I hear it"
HC is presently working a new album of new music, as well as redos mof some older, popular, gospel hymns.
